چکیده

Barley and pea plants were grown under several regimens of different compositions of soil atmosphere, the O(2) concentration varying from 0 to 21% and the CO(2) concentration from 0 to 8%. In absence of CO(2), the effect of O(2) on root length in barley was characterized by equal root lengths within the range of 21 to 7% O(2) and a steep decline between 7 and 0%. In peas, while showing the same general response, the decline occurred between 14 and 7% O(2). Root numbers of the seminal roots of barley decreased already with reduction in O(2) concentration from 21 to 14%. Dry matter production was affected somewhat differently by O(2) and CO(2) concentration. Dry matter production in barley was reduced at 14% O(2) while root length decreased between 7 and 0%. In peas, dry matter production was favored by low CO(2) concentrations except where there was no oxygen. At 21% O(2), increasing CO(2) concentrations did not seem to affect root length up to concentrations of 2% CO(2). At 8% CO(2), root length was decreased. The inter-active effects of CO(2) and O(2) are characterized by a reduced susceptibility to CO(2) at O(2) values below 7%, and a very deleterious effect of 8% CO(2) at 7% O(2).

Phytotoxicity effects of soil amended residues of wild barley (Hordeum spontaneum Koch) on growth and yield of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Wheat (Triticum aestivum) growth and yield are depressed by physical and chemical interference of weeds. Recently, wild barley (Hordeum spontaneum) population has increased in wheat fields of many provinces of Iran. Since, little is known about the allelopathic effects of wild barley residues in soil, greenhouse studies were conducted to examine the effects of soil amended residues of wild barl...

Effect of irrigation interval and water salinity on growth of vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides)

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the limits of irrigationwater salinity and soil water content for growth inhibition of vetiver. Moreover, different models were studied to describe the root water uptake and plant topgrowth under salinity and water stresses in a pot experiment. Irrigation treatmentsconsisted of three irrigation intervals (3, 6 and 9-day). The salinity levels of...

Biocontrol activity of endophytic fungus of barley, Microdochium bolleyi, against Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici

In this study, two isolates of genus Microdochium (W2 and B26) was isolated from the roots of healthy barley plants in agricultural fields from Kermanshah province in 2014 and were identified as Microdochium bolleyi based on morphological and molecular characteristics. Dual culture studies revealed that W2 and B26 inhibit 45% and 20% of the radial growth of Ggt in tur...

Tillage, cropping sequence, and nitrogen fertilization effects on dryland soil carbon dioxide emission and carbon content.

Management practices are needed to reduce dryland soil CO(2) emissions and to increase C sequestration. We evaluated the effects of tillage and cropping sequence combinations and N fertilization on dryland crop biomass (stems + leaves) and soil surface CO(2) flux and C content (0- to 120-cm depth) in a Williams loam from May to October, 2006 to 2008, in eastern Montana. Treatments were no-tille...

اثر شوری کلرید سدیم و غرقاب شدن خاک بر ویژگی‌های رشد ذرت علوفه‌ای در شرایط گلخانه‌ای

Salinity and waterlogging are two important abiotic stresses to plants growth and yield in the world. These two stresses can occur simultaneously and have additive effects on plants, including corn, growth. In a greenhouse experiment, the effects of NaCl salinity and waterlogging and their interactive effect on the growth characteristics of forage corn (Zea mays cv. single cross 704) were studi...
